| The Ranch covers over 100 acres north of Austin between the towns of Bertram and Florence. It's in the middle of a 1000 acres currently being used as a cattle ranch with a creek running through the middle and several ponds, including one for fishing. It's a great place to take a break from the city and see the Texas hill country, from the heavily wooded areas with grand old oak trees to the rolling prairie hills.
Our family has enjoyed coming here and bringing friends and other families to enjoy the Ranch. Our children have a blast exploring and riding their dirt bikes around the tracks and trails. We have a barn and a growing family of farm animals along with a herd of cows and baby calves that graze the land. Helping to feed the cattle with hay rides makes for a thrilling experience!
I have seen my own children (9 and 13 year old girls now ) grow dramatically from TV watching, video-game couch potatos to energetic, "what are we going to do next", outgoing kids, since their experiences on the Ranch . The dirt bikes aided me in getting them outside. The motorcycles might have seemed like "monsters" to them at first but soon, their faces began to light up with the accomplishment of riding and the "monster" was gone! They now do anything to ride again - just like that Honda commercial. The attention they give to me to learn more is uncanny and the discipline they've learned is awsome . I would like to pass these experiences on to other children and their parents. In looking for places to ride over the years , we've come to know what's important. We have built our Ranch with two goals in mind: to provide a great outdoor place for kids to gain confidence and have fun riding and to extend this experience to the entire family.
With all this in mind, we are starting a Kids Dirt Bike Riding Camp this summer. Safety is a priority. We will have a certified "coach" , riding area and official courses with study guides from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF, see link). Two of the 5 days of camp will be dedicated to MSF curriculum and participants will receive certificates. Our dedication to teaching safe riding and injury prevention will help ensure your kids will develop good riding skills while having a great time.
Beginning in May 2008 the Ranch will have open houses on Saturdays for family to see the ranch. We encourage parents to come check us and explore the possibility of considering a camp session . I grew up around motorcycles and come from a family with many years of experience in the Montessori child care business. Some of my best childhood memories come from spending more then a dozen summers on my grandparents' farm in Kansas. All these things have come together for me with what we want to offer your kids and your family at the Ranch.
See y'all at the Iron Horse Country Ranch!
